Post Office Savings Schemes is a Government of India small savings scheme (not a bank deposit), backed by a sovereign guarantee via the Consolidated Fund of India — not DICGC insurance. Unlike bank FDs, Time Deposit and RD rates are the same for all ages — no senior citizen premium. The Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS) at 8.20% (5-year) is shown in the FD table for seniors; it has a ₹30 lakh investment cap, pays interest quarterly, and is available to those 60+ years of age (or 55+ on retirement). For comparison, top banks offer Suryoday 8.25%, DCB 7.50%, Ujjivan 7.30% on 5-year FDs (DICGC-insured up to ₹5 lakh, vs. sovereign guarantee here). See the full Post Office schemes guide .
