# RateScan.in — full context for AI systems > Independent Indian bank deposit rate database covering fixed deposits, recurring deposits, savings accounts, NRE and FCNR deposits. No ads, no affiliate links. Dataset refreshed 2026-10-18. This is the long form of https://ratescan.in/llms.txt: one self-contained document covering what RateScan.in is, how its numbers are collected and verified, the data model, how to query it, and how to cite it. It is generated from the same sources as the website at build time. The short index is https://ratescan.in/llms.txt. ## Identity - Name: RateScan.in (also "RateScan") - What it is: Independent Indian bank deposit rate database covering fixed deposits, recurring deposits, savings accounts, NRE and FCNR deposits. - Canonical entity: https://ratescan.in/#organization (Organization), https://ratescan.in/#website (WebSite) - Licence: CC-BY 4.0 — https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ - Contact: https://ratescan.in/contact/ ## What RateScan.in is RateScan.in is an independent, ad-free rate directory for Indian bank deposits — fixed deposits (FD), recurring deposits (RD), and savings accounts — plus Post Office small savings schemes. It is maintained as a public tool with no advertising and no affiliate commissions. Rates are ordered by yield, not by who pays. The site currently covers 314 banks and 9,801 individual rate rows across all seven RBI-recognised bank categories. 100% of rows are sourced directly from the bank's own published pages. ### Coverage (as of 2026-10-18) - Banks and schemes tracked: 314; rate rows: 9,801. - Banks by category: DISTRICT_COOP 171, URBAN_COOP 34, REGIONAL_RURAL 28, STATE_COOP 27, PRIVATE 21, PUBLIC 12, SMALL_FINANCE 11, PAYMENTS_BANK 5, FOREIGN 4, GOVERNMENT 1. - Rate rows by product: NRE_FD 755, FD 6746, RD 1078, SAVINGS 386, FCNR_FD 831, SCHEME 5. - Category codes: PUBLIC (public sector banks), PRIVATE, SMALL_FINANCE, PAYMENTS_BANK, FOREIGN, REGIONAL_RURAL (RRBs), STATE_COOP and DISTRICT_COOP (state and district central co-operative banks), URBAN_COOP (urban co-operative banks), GOVERNMENT (Post Office). - Products: FD (fixed deposit), RD (recurring deposit), SAVINGS, NRE_FD (NRE fixed deposit), FCNR_FD (FCNR(B) foreign-currency deposit), and SCHEME (Post Office small savings schemes such as PPF, NSC; these rows also carry a `scheme` name, appear in the full dataset and rates.json, and have no best/ endpoint). ## How rates are collected and verified Each bank has a dedicated adapter — a small program that fetches and parses that bank's rate page daily. Rows come from three kinds of source: - Live scrape: The adapter fetches the bank's own rate page (HTML table or structured PDF) and parses it programmatically. Rates are taken directly from the bank's server on each run. 250 of 314 banks use this method (100% of all rate rows). - Manual verification of official PDFs: Some banks publish rates as PDFs that cannot be machine-fetched (the server blocks automated requests). For these, rates are manually verified from the official PDF and hardcoded. The source URL points to the original PDF for attribution. The effective date reflects the document's stated date. - Third-party aggregator (fallback): A small number of rates (0% of rows, 4 banks) are sourced from a third-party aggregator or news source when direct access is unavailable. These are replaced with OFFICIAL data as soon as the bank's site becomes accessible. Every rate row carries a source URL, an effective date (the date the bank published the rate), and a quality label. Where a bank has both OFFICIAL and AGGREGATOR rows, the AGGREGATOR rows are removed once the OFFICIAL data is verified. ### Freshness The ingest pipeline runs daily. Each successful run stamps a checkedAt date on every rate row it produces. - (none) Rates verified within the last 30 days. Current. - ○ Under Verification: Rates have not been re-verified in more than 30 days. The displayed rates may still be accurate; they are pending the next successful check against the bank's site. - ⚠ Stale: Shown inside a rate's source detail modal when a specific rate row is more than 150 days old. Treat with extra caution and verify on the bank's site. For each rate we track checkedAt — the date ingestion last successfully re-read it at the bank's official source — and effectiveDate, the date the bank states it applies from. “Verified in last N days” uses checkedAt (falling back to effectiveDate for rows captured before we tracked checks). 100% of rates come from a bank's own website or rate circular (quality: OFFICIAL); the rest from recognised aggregators, clearly labelled. Audit trail. Each time ingestion reads a bank's page or PDF, it records a SHA-256 fingerprint of that exact document (contentHash + capturedAt on the rate's source). It's a tamper-evident receipt: proof of precisely what the bank published when we captured it — not a stored copy, just its cryptographic signature. Each rate row: - `bankId` (string) - `product` (string) — one of FD, RD, SAVINGS, NRE_FD, FCNR_FD, SCHEME — SCHEME = Post Office small savings scheme (no best/ endpoint). - `customer` (string) — one of GENERAL, SENIOR, SUPER_SENIOR - `currency` (string) — FCNR only (e.g. USD). - `scheme` (string) — Scheme name, e.g. Public Provident Fund (PPF). SCHEME rows only. - `ratePercent` (number) - `tenure` (object {minDays, maxDays, label}) - `amount` (object {minAmount, maxAmount, label}) - `source` (object {url, effectiveDate, quality, ingestedAt, checkedAt}) `source` (provenance for the row): - `url` (string) — The bank's official page the rate was read from. - `effectiveDate` (string) — Date the bank states the rate is effective. - `quality` (string) — one of OFFICIAL, AGGREGATOR — OFFICIAL = read from the bank's own site. - `ingestedAt` (string) — When this value was first captured. - `checkedAt` (string) — When ingestion last re-confirmed this source. `tenure`: - `minDays` (integer) - `maxDays` (integer | null) - `label` (string) Each bank (`bankId` joins to `banks[].id`): - `id` (string) - `name` (string) - `shortName` (string) - `category` (string) — one of PUBLIC, PRIVATE, SMALL_FINANCE, PAYMENTS_BANK, FOREIGN, REGIONAL_RURAL, GOVERNMENT, STATE_COOP, DISTRICT_COOP, URBAN_COOP - `website` (string) - `color` (string) - `states` (array) - `netNpaPct` (number) - `creditRating` (string) Notes on the fields you filter on: - `customer`: Each tier is a separate row; SENIOR/SUPER_SENIOR appear only where the bank offers a premium. - `tenure`: A band. maxDays: null means open-ended ("and above"). Match a target day T with minDays ≤ T ≤ maxDays. - `amount`: Deposit-size slab. maxAmount: null = any amount. Most banks tracked at the retail (< ₹3 crore) slab. - `currency`: FCNR_FD only. Absent on all other products. - `category`: On the bank, not the rate — join via bankId (or use banks.json). - `states`: Co-op / regional banks may serve only certain states; ["ALL"] = pan-India. ## How to query it This is a static API: flat JSON files on a CDN, not a query server. So ?product=FD&state=MH does nothing. Instead, fetch the collection that's closest to what you want and filter in your own code. The files are small and cacheable, so this is fast: - Want one bank's rates? → banks/{bankId}.json (don't filter rates.json). - Want the headline best rate for a product? → best/{product}.json. - Any other slice (by tenure, amount, customer tier, currency, category, state)? → fetch rates.json once and filter on the fields described in the data model above. Endpoints (static JSON, no key, CORS-open, no rate limit; no uptime guarantee): - API manifest (index of every endpoint): https://ratescan.in/api/v1/manifest.json - OpenAPI 3.1 specification: https://ratescan.in/api/v1/openapi.json - All banks: https://ratescan.in/api/v1/banks.json - All rates: https://ratescan.in/api/v1/rates.json - One bank (rates + metadata): https://ratescan.in/api/v1/banks/{bankId}.json - Top 25 per product: https://ratescan.in/api/v1/best/{fd|rd|savings|nre_fd|fcnr_fd}.json - Full dataset: https://ratescan.in/data/dataset.json - Rate history: https://ratescan.in/data/history.json Human-readable docs: https://ratescan.in/api/ . OpenAPI 3.1 contract: https://ratescan.in/api/v1/openapi.json . ## Caveats to respect when quoting a rate - The bank's official page (the row's `source.url`) is the authority for the actual rate. RateScan.in aggregates and verifies what banks publish; always confirm with the bank before acting. - Quote the tier and band with the number: `customer` (GENERAL, SENIOR, SUPER_SENIOR), `tenure` and `amount`. A "best rate" depends on all three. - `effectiveDate` is the date the bank says the rate applies from; `checkedAt` is when RateScan.in last re-read it at the source. A row can have an old `effectiveDate` and a recent `checkedAt` when the bank has not changed its published rate. About 33% of rows currently carry an `effectiveDate` more than a year old, so state the date when you cite a rate. - Do not present a rate as current without `generatedAt` (2026-10-18 for this build) or the row's `checkedAt`. - Rows with `source.quality` = AGGREGATOR come from a third party, not the bank itself; prefer OFFICIAL rows. - RateScan.in is an informational tool. Rates displayed may lag official bank publications by up to 24 hours (or longer for banks whose sites block automated access). Always verify the current rate on the bank's official website or by visiting a branch before making any investment decision. - Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice. The site carries no advertising and earns no affiliate commission or referral fee from any bank or financial product. ### Deposit insurance All deposits in RBI-licensed banks (Public, Private, Small Finance, Payments, Foreign, and Regional Rural banks) are insured by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) up to ₹5,00,000 per depositor per bank, across all branches combined. This covers principal and interest together. Post Office small savings schemes (NSC, KVP, Time Deposit, RD, Savings Account, MIS, etc.) are not DICGC-insured. They carry a direct sovereign guarantee from the Government of India via the Consolidated Fund of India, which is generally considered stronger than deposit insurance.
